The Mythical Mullett With Mike Ladle & Steve Pitts
This
programme dispels the myth that the grey mullet is un-catchable and proves
that this super, hard fighting fish is a worthy quarry. Mike Ladle, a
zoologist at the Institute of Freshwater Ecology Laboratories, uses his
considerable knowledge of fish behaviour to develop some original and
effective methods of different types, ageing them and studying how and
what they feed on. Three completely different situations are shown. The
first, fishing from a harbour wall with ordinary float and paternoster
set-ups using mackerel and bread baits. The second, spinning from a small
boat using home-made bar spoons baited with worm. And finally, on the
coast, a fascinating look at the seaweed fly and its maggots which find
their way onto the surface whereupon they are taken by the mullet. After
baiting up with rotting seaweed and its maggots, fly tackle is used to
great effect. Lots of attractive mullet are caught and included are some
amazing shots of the fish plucking at, and finally taking a lure. This is
an extremely interesting film which contains every thing one needs to know
about the grey mullet.

Conger With Mike Millman
This
programme has already been acclaimed as one of the finest sea angling
films ever made - and rightly so. Top boat angler and leading journalist
Mike Millman expertly presents the programme aboard one of the country's
stop boats - Tony Allen's high-tech Electric Blue. Aided by co-skipper
Paul Descombe and accompanied by friendly dolphins, they race over the
horizon to wrecks more than 50 miles out from Plymouth. All the tackle,
rigs and bait are explained in great detail. Then, at first, some good
ling and cod are boated but it's not long before the MEAN, MOODY and
MAGNIFICENT conger start to feed. One or two eels prove too much to handle
and manage to reach the wreck on uncontrollable runs. Tense moments follow
as a near 70 pounder tests tackle and skill to the limit until it is
finally beaten. Several big conger are caught and this superb film ends
with fish of not only, 80 and 90 pounds but with Hans Clausen's
magnificent 110 pounder.
