| FARMING OUR LAND |
| Narrated by Roy Marsden |
| The Norfolk town of Kings
Lynn lies at the heart of the local agricultural industry. Over the
years the landscape and farming methods have changed dramatically
and this DVD follows those changes. A mixture of archive film, old
photographs and interviews with farmers and workers, bring this
fascinating story to life. It all began with the large scale
drainage of the fenland which allowed the previously unusable swamp
land to become the most productive agricultural land in the country.
Processes became mechanised, workers roles evolved and the markets
expanded. However, through local innovation and far sightedness,
Lynn and it’s surrounding farmland have always managed to bring
the harvest home. |

| The Classic Guide to Ford
Tractors vol. One THE FORDSON - Helping to Win Wars |
| with Jonathan Whitlam &
Stephen Richmond |
| THE FORDSON is the first in
a three part tribute to the vast range of Ford tractors built
throughout the last 80 years. It tells the inspiring story of Henry
Ford's dream to remove the hard, manual labour of farming from the
shoulders of man and beast and place it fair and square on metal,
oil and wheels, utilising the new technology of mass production on
his revolutionary design of lightweight tractors. Jonathan and
Stephen demonstrate the complete range of Fordsons with the aid of
Bill Kemball’s comprehensive collection kept at Bentwaters Parks
in Suffolk. Along with extensive footage, both old and new, of
working machines and fascinating stories from a former Land Girl
reminiscing about her days driving Fordsons in the war, a Sussex
farmer still using three Fordsons on his farm today and Mr Kemball
giving us a personal insight into the history of his very special
collection. The Fordson’s are the tractors that not only helped
win wars but also won a place in the hearts of thousands of farmers
in the UK and throughout the world – this programme is their
story... |

| MONSTERS OF THE PEA FIELD |
| The Story of the Pea
Harvester with Jonathan Whitlam & Stephen Richmond |
| This third instalment into
the fascinating world of harvesters looks at the previously untold
story of Britain’s favourite vegetable – the humble Pea and its
journey between pod and plate. We take a slightly different approach
in this programme and follow the Anglian Pea Growers and their
entourage, who manage to keep the peas flowing despite such
difficult weather conditions in 2007. Archive and contemporary
footage takes us from arduous hand picking, to the first mechanised
pea cutters and loaders and shows machines from FMC, Ploeger, Mather
& Platt and Shelbourne Reynolds, culminating in the latest
impressive six-wheeled harvesters built by PMC. Mighty oaks may grow
from little acorns but the humble pea demands the attentions of some
seriously magnificent machines to ensure its safe and timely passage
to our dinner table, so whilst chasing that elusive pea around the
plate, spare a thought for those giants - the Monsters of the Pea
Fields. |

| MONSTERS OF THE BEET FIELD |
| THE STORY OF THE SUGAR BEET
HARVESTER with Jonathan Whitlam & Stephen Richmond |
| Using contemporary, archive
and manufacturers footage, Stephen and Jonathan guide us on a
journey through the development of the sugar beet harvester, from
horse and man power to automatic, electronically controlled mega
machines. The development of the early harvesters is shown as we see
many famous names at work, such as Standen, GBW and Catchpole.
Self-propelled machines make an appearance with the Standen Solobeet
and the later Cyclone and Tornado, while the Ransomes Hunter was an
early attempt at something a little more sophisticated. The story
continues with the development of six-row machines from firms such
as Moreau, Matrot and Riecam. The six-row harvesters became eclipsed
by the arrival of the tanker harvesters that soon became enormous!
We follow the development of the early machines from Verveat and
Standen to the monster twelve-row machines of the 21st Century. Four
special features also put the sugar beet harvest into perspective.
We see how the land is prepared, the beet crop drilled and cared for
before moving on to the harvest itself and how trailers have
developed to keep up with the ever evolving beet harvesters. We take
a quick look at sugar production through the 1970’s, 80’s and
90’s, using British Sugar’s own archive film and with the aid of
promotional footage kindly on loan from Agrifac, we show in detail
their range of the latest monster machines. Both classic and modern
tractors feature heavily in this unique programme, specially filmed
at the Glinton Working Weekend near Peterborough and the Beet UK
demonstration near Lincoln during 2005. It also features material
from Stephen and Jonathan’s own collection going back to the mid
1980s, making this a glorious tribute to these magnificent machines
– from the smallest beginnings up to the Monsters of the
Beet Field. |

| THE FERGUSON REVOLUTION |
| The story of Harry
Ferguson, his tractors, implements and hydraulic system |
| One invention more then any
other revolutionised tractors and changed the face of agriculture in
the 20th century – the three-point linkage and hydraulic lift. It
was invented by Irishman Harry Ferguson and became known thereafter
as The Ferguson System. The creator and his system are the focus for
this enlightening programme. In order to demonstrate the vast range
of Ferguson-Browns, Ford-Fergusons, TE20 derivatives and Massey
Fergusons, Second Sight were privileged to have access to the world
famous ‘Hunday Collection’ compiled by John Moffitt and now
owned by Paul Rackham. Located in Norfolk, many examples from this
extensive collection of over forty tractors are filmed working in
the surrounding fields. Interviews with John Moffitt, Paul Rackham
and restorer, Ivan Cowlen add personal and technical interest, which
along with original archive footage and some real gems, make this an
exhilarating programme to watch. Presented by Emmerdale and
Heartbeat actor Stewart Howson, a self confessed Ferguson fanatic,
the programme features not only these wonderful tractors both static

| THE LEGENDARY DOE |
| The story of the Triple D,
DOE 130 and the DOE 150 |
| In the 1950s one of the
most popular tractors on British farms was the Fordson Major. Whilst
mostly capable, in some areas the Major lacked the power needed to
deal with the heavy soil, and for one Essex farmer, the answer was
to join two Major tractors together to form one articulated, four
wheel drive, 100hp tractor. Resulting in the farm machinery icon we
know today as the Doe Triple D. This programme tells the story of the Doe Dual Drive, which on
account of its tongue twisting nature was soon referred to as the
Doe Triple D. We trace its origins back to its original conception
by farmer George Pryor through to the production of the tandem
tractor built by agricultural dealers Ernest Doe & Sons at their
Essex base in Ulting, Specially filmed material is supplemented by
remarkable and previously unseen archive colour footage shot by Alan
Doe in the early 1960s. With the help of former Doe employees, we unravel the story of the
production of this incredible machine and how it developed over the
years alongside the evolving Fordson Major skid unit. We talk to the
chairman of the Doe Owners Club and show many fine examples of both
the tractors and their implements at work. Special features include
the history of Ernest Doe & Sons, and another showing Alan
Doe’s entire archive footage, compliment this fine programme. The Doe Triple D caused a huge stir when it was first seen by
farmers back in the late fifties and this program shows how, in the
21st Century, this amazing machine still turns heads and also
demands high prices at auction. If any farming machine could be
described as being a legend in its own lifetime, then it must be The
Legendary Doe. |

demonstrates a variety of harvests in the farming year, from hay and
silage, to the twenty-four-hour-a-day pea harvest, cereal and straw,
and on to lifting root crops. The baler, in its many shapes and
forms, is also put under the spotlight. Jonathan gives an
affectionate insight into the development of the farm tractor and
how all its many functions have evolved over the years. From the
earliest beginnings, the introduction of the three-point linkage,
power take off and the ascendancy of the diesel engine. This is an
amazing record of machinery on the farm, both vintage and modern and
of harvesting techniques used during the last century, providing a
comprehensive account of this special period of the farming
calendar. |

| Ferguson On The Farm -
Part One |
| Harold Beer & Stuart
Gibbard |
Harry Ferguson's system of
farm mechanisation is brought to life here by some 25 implements
filmed at work. Beginning with early summer cultivations and potato
planting, the programme covers weed control in potatoes and kale,
hay and silage-making, hedge-trimming and general farm tasks such as
post-hole boring and milk-churn transport. It concludes with potato
lifting, disc ploughing, earth-moving and work with the Ferguson
reversible plough, leaving a companion programme to look at other
winter and spring activities.
The majority of the implements are from Harold Beer’s working
collection in North Devon and many were bought new. A range of
Fergies provide the power, one of them still at work on the family
farm where it was first used in 1949. The programme has a full
commentary scripted by Stuart Gibbard, author of The Ferguson
Tractor Story. The narrator is BBC broadcaster and tractor
enthusiast David Holt. |

This video shows a wide
range of Ferguson equipment, ploughs, cultivators and disc harrows
at work. Ferguson provided a complete system of mechanisation and we
see many of the rarer implements in action, including the sub-soiler,
rowcrop thinner, crane, dump skip, winch, cordwood saw and hammer
mill. Muck-spreading and bale-loading sequences show all the
different Ferguson trailers and loaders, illustrating just how
extensive the range had become by the 1950s.
Nearly all the implements come from Harold Beer’s collection in
North Devon. A range of Ferguson tractors provide the power,
including a rare four-wheel-drive conversion. The programme has a
full commentary scripted by Stuart Gibbard, author of The Ferguson

| Fordson Farming |
| Stuart Gibbard |
| The era of Fordson Farming
was probably the greatest epoch in the history of Ford tractors. It
began in 1945 with the launch of the stalwart E27N Major and
continued through the E1A series, which included the acclaimed
Fordson Diesel Major. In 1957, the Major got a workmate as the Dexta
added a new facet to Fordson Farming before the ‘New
Performance’ models of the mid-1960s brought the era to a close.
The script has been written by Stuart Gibbard, author of the
award-winning Ford Tractor Story books, who has selected some of the
best examples of the Fordson tractors of the period for the
programme. Over thirty machines, from Dagenham production models to
rare four-wheel drive and tracked conversions made by manufacturers
such as County, Doe and Roadless, are seen in action with authentic
implements at various locations. |

| Giants Of The Field |
| Stuart Gibbard |
| A surprising number of the
big four-wheel drive tractors that were designed for the North
American prairies found their way into Britain during the 1970s and
80s. Their impressive work-rates revolutionised arable operations on
larger farming units. Today many of these big wheelers, including
both articulated and crab-steer machines, still have a place on
Britain's farms. This video shows a wide range of machines in action
from some of the earliest Doe tractors to more modern giants from
both the USA and Russia. We also see the latest flagship models from
today's leading manufacturers at work. Tractors filmed include not
just the well-known names, such as Steiger, Versatile, John Deere,
Case, Massey Ferguson and Ford, but also lesser known makes like
Matbro, Cameco, Belarus and White. Stuart Gibbard's informative
script gives details of the main features of the models and explains
the impact they had on British agriculture. |

| A Victorian Summer |
| Paul Heiney |
This beautifully filmed
Anglia television series presented by Paul Heiney takes you back to
an era when farming methods revolved around the horse and the life
of a village was dependent on its farms.
Paul follows three crops - oats, potatoes and grass - from sowing to
harvest, re-creating the days of horse-ploughing and steam
thrashing. He shows a typical farm with its cows milked by hand and
its traditional breeds of sheep and pigs. He also searches the
region for rural craftsmen and women who are keeping alive the old
skills such as rick-thatching and wheelwrighting.
A Victorian Summer is an immensely popular series, welcomed for its
wide range of items from an account of bird populations in the
Victorian countryside to handling bees with a straw skep. |

| A Victorian Winter &
Spring |
| Paul Heiney |
Victorian farming wasn’t
all about making hay while the sun shone. There were tough winters
and hectic springs to provide plenty of challenges for the
hard-working farmer.
In the ten episodes of this programme first broadcast by ITV Anglia
in 2004, Paul Heiney and crew work the land with a pair of Suffolk
Punch cart-horses, using the machinery and the traditional methods
which would have been seen 100 years ago. The programmes capture
many other aspects of bygone rural life from bush-draining to
cider-making. We meet traditional craftsmen and women still putting
to good use the skills of our ancestors. And in the kitchen, food
historian Alison Sloan produces some fine Victorian fare. |
