Mad Money
Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes, and Queen Latifah headline director Callie
Khouri's second feature film. Nina (Latifah) and Jackie (Holmes) are two
of many employees with mundane jobs at the high security Kansas City
Federal Reserve Bank. Their lives change forever when career mom Bridget
(Diane Keaton) takes a job there as a cleaning woman after learning that
she and her downsized husband, Don (Ted Danson), are hundreds of thousands
of dollars in debt. Being surrounded by stacks and stacks of money is too
much for Bridget to bear, and she corrals Nina and Jackie into taking the
biggest risk of their lives: sneaking out of the bank, money that is
removed from circulation and about to be shredded. Amazingly, their scheme
works, and soon the three are fast friends and the cash is piling up. But
will they ever have enough 'mad money,' or will greed be their downfall?
The fun here is in how three average women pull off a remarkably low tech
scam in the midst of super high security levels, hidden cameras, and
constant monitoring.

Blindness
Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles (CITY OF GOD) brings Jose
Saramago's much-loved novel BLINDNESS to the screen with this ambitious
adaptation. Like Saramago's book, Meirelles chooses to forfeit names for
his characters, instead spinning BLINDNESS around the plight of a doctor
and his wife (Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore). A blindness epidemic
strikes an unnamed city, forcing the government to put many citizens in
quarantine, including Ruffalo's doctor. Unable to conceive of life without
him, Moore's character feigns blindness and joins him in the grimy
high-security institution where visually impaired citizens are kept. Their
attempt to survive in the rotting facility, which quickly falls into
disrepair and chaos, forms the backbone of Meirelles's movie. There's a
twist in the tale as Ruffalo and Moore's characters struggle to lead the
blind to a place where they can come to terms with their condition, and
Meirelles makes the journey deeply unsettling. An impressive cast ably
backs Ruffalo and Moore, including Danny Glover, Gael Garcia Bernal, and
Alice Braga.

Cass
CASS is the incredible true story of one man’s identity struggle and
ultimate redemption. The film follows how a Jamaican orphan baby, adopted
by an elderly white couple in 1950's London, changed from being the most
feared hooligan in the country to Britain’s best selling black author.
CASS grew up in a time before political correctness and as a young child,
was forced to endure racist bullying on a daily basis. One fateful day the
pent up years of anger surfaced in an explosive burst of violence and from
then on, CASS decided he would never be bullied again. Through violence,
CASS found the respect he had never had, but he’d become addicted to the
buzz of fighting and the power it ultimately gave him. As a boyhood fan of
West Ham United, CASS rose through the ranks to become the leader of their
hooligan gang, The Intercity Firm (The ICF). Being a six foot five black
man in a predominantly white social sphere, CASS was an instantly
recognisable target for his adversaries and the authorities. CASS was
eventually given the first long term prison sentence for football related
violence, when the Thatcher regime made it their main priority to rid the
country of the ‘English disease’.
